A New Addition

Surprisingly, we have a lot to update about :)

This past week we were invited to dinner at two family's homes and had a blast. It's so great getting to know the families around here and meet their kids, not to mention how awesome the parents are. Last weekend we also went out to Simi to take some photos for MBKB and hang out with family. Here's a small peek at the cuteness we captured (for the full post, go to the MBKB Blog):

Can you say cute??

It was a surprise that my sister and her husband were also planning on visiting home that weekend too, so I was really excited that all of us were together. Funny how it happens more when you don't plan it.

On Sunday my family gathered at my Uncle's house in Chatsworth for his birthday and sort of a mini-reunion since my Aunt was visiting from Idaho too! Valerie brought such a fun vibe, and it was really nice to have all of my aunts and uncles together. That day was pretty hectic in addition to that (and it being a dog zoo at the party, and Harley wasn't on his best behavior... but that's a different story), because from 11-3 PM my parents had to drop off puppies they were fostering to be shown at a PetSmart store nearby, so that required a few trips from there to the party and back. However, it was a very successful day, as the last two pups got applicants! Yay! So glad they all found homes. Mom is really going to miss her little furry children and I am too...

Speaking of furry children, Mike and I had talked about adopting another dog, and if it felt right we would do it, sooo... Meet Maya!

Initially she was very timid and quiet. Harley seemed fine with her, until we brought her with us everywhere and he realized what was happening :P In Simi, Harley played VERY well with Minnie, my Mom's adoptee of the same breed as Maya (terrier mix - same size, shape, ears, etc.) and it was so fun to watch. I was initially very worried it wouldn't happen with Harley and Maya... but on Monday I just ignored their growling and let them "duke it out" while I referee'd and... viola, playtime! They wore each other out BIG TIME, and I am so happy they play together. We're glad we could open our home to a dog in need, and help the Life4Paws rescue open their fosters up to another shelter dog. Now I just need to stop looking at the endless photos online of dogs that need adopting at the shelter :(

This Saturday we're taking pics of families at the beach in Orange County. If you hear of anyone needing photos in the area, now is a good time! Later on I'm doing a shoot in Serrano Woods, and an early evening shoot at the Ventura beach. The more photos I take, the more fun I have.

The Harley Post

Yesterday night, Mike and I couldn't sleep, so at midnight we started rolling around on the floor with Harley. I couldn't resist taking pictures, and Harley is sooooo good at modeling!

Spring Break

Last week I took one sub job, but after the nightmare of the Friday before, I really didn't feel like taking more. Instead I went to visit Michael at work and Harley has come to enjoy seeing his daddy in the afternoons :) Here's a treasured moment of them napping.

I brought cinnamon chips and my family's fruit salad mix to a SG potluck on Friday. Last weekend we also tried to find a specific hiking trail, but when we finally did, it was teeming with bikers in a race, so there was no way to get through without upsetting a lot of people. We'll have to try for it again when it's not raining.

Last Wednesday we went to the Newport Beach temple and did sealings with our ward. Since I was the only person who brought family names, those were the majority of names that we did. It has been so long since I brought my names to the temple, I caught the fire again! I can't wait to go back. Mike also heard a few of my ancestors' names and thought some sounded cool for a baby girl ;)

Tonight we went to Chick-Fil-A up off of Portola Hwy and got free meals! I'm an organ donor and Mike signed up too. It was really cool of Ani Taylor and her husband to become spokespeople for Donate Life, on behalf of their organization The Ruby Jane Foundation since the passing of their little girl. I felt silly once I met Ani for the first time, like I was meeting a public figure :x haha. She is so nice!

Tomorrow we're having my friend April and her husband over for dinner, yay! House guests! Then... back to work week. Sigh.

Spring is Springing

Photography biz: It seems with spring that things seem to pop up out of nowhere! We've scheduled a wedding for August and a family/baby session in Santa Barbara soon. The busier I keep myself, the more opportunities pop up to show people what we love to do! I'm SO glad we have MBKB as a side business because honestly, it's the most fun "work" I've ever had.

Substitute teaching: The past two weeks took a LOT of energy out of me. The combination of traveling to nine different schools within two weeks was nuts. Did I also mention, the last day was the toughest? There's one school for the "drop outs" AKA their last chance. By 11th or 12th grade they start thinking about getting serious and doing what they need to do, but I had a few tenth grade classes, and it wasn't pretty. Enough said.  I don't sub again until tomorrow (Weds) and I'm grateful for that.

The past two days have been nice and relaxing. Mike and I are aiming to eat healthier so I've cooked a few light and yummy meals so far. [Example: this is soooo yummy! Basil Chicken in Coconut Curry Sauce.] We had lunch at his work with Harley and it was nice to enjoy the landscaping and the sunshine. Our HOA dues also pay for the Sun & Sail Club membership and we checked out the gym last night. It's small but has great equipment, and they have beautiful pools we're looking forward to relaxing in!

Crafty Update: I sold a wreath! I'm still hoping to sell my egg wreaths and bunny wreath before Easter. I'm so proud of them! It took me so long to make them.

My Mom is still fostering Minnie and most of her puppies until the rescue sets up a viewing for potential adopters. She loves having them there, they've grown and gotten cuter and cuter. This link reminded me of exactly what my mom is doing: Barely alive at birth, rescue pup may be world's smallest. Also, here is such a touching video that shows EXACTLY why I rescue and adopt dogs from shelters. Dog Living in Trash Pile Gets Rescued.

Mike and I have wanted to upgrade our furniture, so little by little, IKEA's deals are helping us do that. Here's our entertainment center, which perfectly matches our side tables:

We saw the movie "Hunger Games" last Saturday night with Mike's dad, it was SO GOOD! For some reason I'm hesitant to go see movies, because they cost a lot and I worry if I'll even like it or not. This movie was definitely worth it. Plus, I had to use a Groupon that was expiring.

That's pretty much us in a nutshell since mid-March. We're excited that our 1-year anniversary is already coming up! It seems like yesterday that everything happened. So far we're thinking of maybe taking a little trip somewhere for a night or two to celebrate. Yay travel!
